I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate only love can do that.-Martin Luther King Jr.
My mind has never comprehended war, my mind has never contemplated the need for weapons as their very existence is the reason some now feel they require them. I can never understand how or why to cheer for the death of another human being. What is the consequence in that? What is learned? What is exemplified other than a means of justifying something we all profess to be wrong, killing. Martin Luther says it best, and I shake my head because I don't see this as a solution and I don't see this as a means to an end.
What good can ever come of blood shed?

I think the main thing Osama's death provided was a sense of closure in some ways. It's kind of a false sense of security because there's still terrorism in the world, but for a lot of people getting "the bad guy" was something symbolic that we could celebrate as a victory of some sort.
The MLK quote isn't an actual quote (it seems to be a combination of MLK's words with something else and that combination became a meme), but MLK's actual words say it even more powerfully: http://darkskyday.tumblr.com/post/5161434302/the-ultimate-weakness-of-violence-is-that-it-is-a
Thank-you so much for sharing the full quote, I've read it before and you are right it's far more powerful when you read the entire text.
NO good ever came out of blood being shared. I wished the world would see how inhumane it REALLY is!
